Broken Ankles

Accessory Navicular Syndrome

Accessory navicular syndrome is a foot condition where an extra piece of bone, called an accessory navicular, forms near the navicular bone in the foot. Treatment for this condition typically begins with conservative measures, such as rest, immobilization, use of orthotics, exercise, and taking anti-inflammatory medication. Surgery typically involves removing the accessory navicular bone and repairing the nearby tendon. Essential Foot Stretches for Runners

Lean into the wall while keeping your back heel on the ground, feeling the stretch in your calf muscle. It is helpful to hold this stretch for 15 seconds on each leg. Lastly, the plantar fascia stretch can relieve tension in the arch of your foot. Sit with one leg crossed over the other, and gently pull your toes back towards you, while holding for 15 seconds on each foot.   • Crossing one leg over the others and carefully pull your toes back. Do 10-20 repetitions and repeat the process for each foot
  • Face a wall with your arms out and hands flat against the wall. Step back with one foot and keep it flat on the floor while moving the other leg forward. Lean towards the wall until you feel a stretch. Hold for 30 seconds and perform 10 repetitions for each foot
  • Be sure not to overextend or push your limbs too hard or you could risk pulling or straining your muscle
